Hudson Valley Wedding, St. Philips Church, Garrison, NY. I was introduced to Megan and Patrick through, Kay, Patrick’s mother. Kay and I lived in the same Hudson Valley town and I was lucky to have Kay teach all three of my daughters at the local preschool. In recent years, I was asked to be the preschool photographer – a once a year opportunity that I adore. Even better, Kay is the teacher that helps me directly on these shoots. It is such a pleasure to have her help; she just gets it. She understands the need to photograph these lovely children naturally, as they are, rather than with fake one dimensional fake grins across their faces. When Kay’s son, Patrick, asked me about photographing his and Megan’s wedding, I was honored. There is no better compliment to be recommended by a someone, such as Kay, who is very familiar with my work and gets it.
Amy Kubik, helped me capture this wedding as a second shooter. She went to Patrick’s family home in advance to photograph the guys and Patrick’s family getting ready. Her photos were incredible. The photo of the guys getting ready photographed through doorway is one of my most favorite photos from this wedding. All of Amy’s photos genuinely captured the essence of Patrick and Megan’s day. Both the family and I were so grateful to have Amy presence and skill with us that day.
I was so impressed with Patrick and Megan the first time I met them. They were clearly in love, and excited about their upcoming wedding but they also had, for the lack of a better work, a “ground-ness” to their connection. Megan and Patrick both seem to understand what is most import in their relationship and in life – meaning they are both substantive people. They are also one of the most compatible couples I have ever photographed. There is something very natural and easy about their love for one another. This simpleness permeated their wedding. Yes, they were excited/nervous about their wedding day but there was a stillness, a calm, there as well – a knowing that they were embarking on a nourishing union that would prop each other up. The universe seemed to accept this as well. Their wedding day forecast called for heavy rain. However, it held off perfectly and I mean perfectly. The rain came only once everyone was safe inside the reception hall. It then magically stopped once the reception was over and it was time to head for our cars.
Megan and Patrick are simple put just really good people – this, to me, is the number one attribute needed for a successful marriage. I am assured the Megan and Patrick’s marriage will be a happy one and I have no doubt they will be great parents to boot! Congratulations Megan and Patrick!
