Catskill Wedding Photography, Windham, NY.

Antonia’s childhood home was the setting for her and Chris’ Catskills wedding in Windham, NY.  Antonia grew up in Windham but both her parents were from Europe. Their charming home had a very European feel and the wooded property was gorgeous sitting next to both a pond and a lake.  In fact, Antonia’s parents had also married there.

Antonia and Chris were one of the most casual couples I have ever had the pleasure to work with.  Their priority was having fun and celebrating with those closest to them. In fact many of their guests pitched a tent and spent the night of the wedding camping on the property.  How fun is that?!! Oddly enough, their wedding coincided with my family’s annual camp out which happened to be also be close their Catskills wedding. Since I was already planning to be in the area and they only wanted four hours of photo coverage, it was not difficult for me to capture their day.  It did however rain throughout most of their Catskills wedding and through the night. Like Antonia’s camping guests, my family also woke up in puddles of rain in and around our tents. My family did not mind and nor did Antonia’s – in fact no one even complained.

It was a lovely wedding to be a part of and capture.  For Antonia and Chris’s couple shots we simply took a walk to the lake.  The lovely forrest path and the naturally affectionate couple made for some wonderful photos.  My most favorite, perhaps of all time, is the photo of Antonia walking down the stairwell of her family home on the way to her ceremony.  I love window light and when I saw a small window in the stairwell at my advanced site visit I gasped with excitement knowing Antonia would be traversing those stairs on the way to her ceremony.  On Antonia’s wedding day, I simply asked her to walk slowly as she made her way down the stairs. I simply perched myself on the second floor of the stairwell, as she walked past. I love the shadows and the beam of natural window light that highlights her on her way.  The light elevated the moment captured. Putting my subjects in the most gorgeous light possible and capturing them as naturally as possible – is always my first approach to photographing my subjects.

Another thing I must say about Antonia and Chris is the kinship I felt towards them.  My assistant at Antonia’s wedding felt the same thing. “Antonia is someone I could see myself being friends with”, she said. Antonia and Chris just felt familiar to me, as did her friends.  In fact months later I was doing a site visit with another bride.  When mentioned being also from Windham, NY, I immediately asked if she knew Antonia. She knew her very well, in fact!  Like draws like, I suppose! Here is Kelly’s blog post: https://christineashburnweddings.com/2017/06/08/kelly-cj-hudson-valley-wedding-poughkeepsie-grandview/

Congratulations to this wonderful couple.  I was so happy to be a part of it.
