When Amber reached out to me about photographing her engagement session to Paul, I was excited to hear that she is the cousin of a friend of mine. I was actually scheduled to photograph her cousin’s wedding in the coming weeks. Also awesome was that Amber and Paul...
The Garrison Wedding Photographer | Marissa and Adam’s Romantic Wedding
I met Marissa and Adam at the Garrison Bridal Show, and we immediately clicked. Marissa loved my work, so I’ll admit, it did cause some pressure to make sure the wedding photos lived up to her expectations. Marissa and Adam have a natural ease about them. I immediately felt comfortable with them, allowing me to do what I do best. Their energy after this wedding shoot left me feeling energized for days after.
An Incredible Venue for an Incredible Couple
Rain on your wedding day may be good luck, but it sure doesn’t help calm the nerves of a bride—especially if the couple has planned an outdoor wedding. Leading up to this wedding, the threat of rain was very high. I assured Marissa that the weather would not dampen her day. We had plenty of options! They chose The Garrison in New York for the venue (a place near and dear to me) with the ceremony taking place outside. However, if nature would have its way, the room for an inside ceremony at The Garrison is incredible. The many floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the gorgeous views of the Hudson Highlands. You almost feel like you’re outside. Also, being familiar with The Garrison, I know that standing under the front awning and bouncing the flash creates some amazing photos. In a pinch, the window light in the bar is incredible. If the rain let up we could make a dash for the stone gazebo just outside the main door. In the end, if that is not enough, I offer all my clients an outdoor post-wedding shoot in case of a downpour.
All that to say, there was much ado about nothing. The weather was perfect! I love all of the natural textures at The Garrison. The brown vines of the wedding arch, stone gazebo, and diverse trees create some stunning natural balance to a formal wedding. The subdued blue sunset also provided amazing lighting. But I especially loved the diverse personalities and styles of the guests at this wedding—my specialty is finding the perfect moment to take candid shots that capture raw emotions and true personalities as opposed to fake poses. Thankfully, this shoot had plenty! I had a blast photographing this wedding, and I wish Marissa and Adam the very best!
