If you’re dreaming of an intimate, meaningful, and visually striking way to celebrate your love, Little Stony Point is, without question, my favorite place in the Hudson Valley for an elopement, marriage proposal, or engagement session. I live so close that I can walk there from my home, and often do, which has given me a deep, lived-in familiarity with the landscape, the light, and the quiet moments that make this place so special. In addition, Little Stony Point is within walking distance of the quaint, beloved village of Cold Spring, where you’ll find a historic river town to explore, enjoy a great meal, and even stay overnight. Despite its proximity to New York City, the landscape feels wild and untouched. There’s a quiet here that invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and be present with one another - something that’s increasingly rare and incredibly valuable on a wedding or proposal day. For couples who don’t want a traditional venue, Little Stony Point offers something far more meaningful: space to simply be. No décor is needed. The cliffs, river, sky, and light do all the work.

From a logistical standpoint, it’s easy to plan discreetly. We can choose a spot that feels secluded, coordinate timing for ideal light, and ensure the moment unfolds organically without crowds or distractions. The result is a proposal that feels deeply personal and beautifully documented.

For engagement sessions, Little Stony Point offers an incredible variety in a relatively small area. In a short walk, we can capture dramatic cliffside portraits, softer wooded moments, and a beach with river views. Couples who may feel camera-shy often relax quickly in this environment. Instead of posing, you’re walking, talking, laughing, and simply experiencing the place together. Little Stony Point is wonderfully accessible, which is part of its appeal. From the roadside entrance, it’s a quick ten-minute walk into the park, whether you’re heading toward the cliffs overlooking the Hudson or down to the beach area. That said, the terrain is uneven and rocky, so proper footwear is essential. Heels of any kind or slippery dress shoes are not recommended - especially for elopements. For elopements, the park is best suited for very small gatherings of fewer than ten guests, keeping the experience intimate and in line with park guidelines. As Little Stony Point is part of the Hudson Highlands State Park, you are required to notify them in advance if you plan to elope here, which helps ensure that the space remains respected and low-impact. Little Stony Point is part of the Hudson Highlands State Park Parking is straightforward but worth planning for. There is designated roadside parking near the entrance, as well as a small parking lot directly across the street. On weekends, particularly in the fall, parking can fill up quickly. For this reason, weekdays for an elopement, marriage proposal or engagement sessions are strongly recommended if you want a quieter, more relaxed experience. And one final note that many couples appreciate: dogs are welcome. If your pup is part of your life (and your story), Little Stony Point is a beautiful place to include them in this moment.
