In my years as a wedding photographer, I’ve witnessed couples stressing over their wedding arrangements so many times. And hey, there is nothing wrong with wanting to be thoughtful in your approach to your wedding day. However, when your wedding day does come, you must step back from planning and allow yourself to get swept up more fully in your wedding moments. Delegate, delegate, Delegate. Ask for help, put stuff aside and let perfection go. Instead, be in the moment and enjoy the heck out of your wedding. What I always tell couples is – “What is the point of all that planning – if you don’t actually allow yourself to enjoy your wedding day?”
I especially worry about my couples’ ability to put the planning aside on their wedding day, when they have an at-home wedding. However, I can happily say that my experience with Kaitlin & Ryan was different. Kaitlin and Ryan felt present in their Bohemian Themed Millbrook NY wedding. It was such a gorgeous celebration, you could feel the love around them and Kaitlin and Ryan seemed to float along and immerse themselves fully in their celebration. This is what I want most for all my couples.
Wedding Photography In Millbrook, NY
Green is my favorite color, and shades of green on green is my favorite color combination. A deeper green color palette is more common in winter weddings. However, I thought it fit perfectly in Kaitlin & Ryan’s mid-August Millbrook NY wedding. The wedding party’s green dresses and details perfectly accentuated the deep full, mature greens of a Hudson Valley summer and made for some charming wedding day family portraits.
Kaitlin & Ryan truly transformed into a charming setting for their backyard Millbrook NY wedding celebration. I loved how Kaitlin put up some light fabrics in the woods for her and Ryan and their wedding party to gather before walking down the aisle. Ryan also constructed a unique wooden pallet backdrop with their last name in neon. I loved how it was perfectly placed in the background of their ceremony aisle and it made its way into the background of my photos. They also enlisted Nuzzi’s Tin Tavern to set up the cutest trailer bar. Also, the person Kaitlin hired to do her hair is my hairstylist too.
One of my favorite moments to capture was Kaitlin putting on her dress. In every instance before, I have always photographed the couple getting dressed inside. However, when I first saw the fabric Katilin hung in the woods, I was excited about the possibility of photographing her there, especially with the August heat. I quickly approached Kaitlyn to see how she would feel about getting into her wedding dress outside, hidden behind the fabrics. It was unconventional and I was unsure how she would feel. However, Kaitlin did not hesitate and agreed instantly. I really appreciated seeing how content and easy Kaitlin was throughout her wedding.
Kaitlin and Ryan, kudos to you both for pulling off such a sweet backyard Millbrook NY wedding. You made it seem effortless and you two were able to put aside all the planning on your wedding day and fully enjoy it. This is not always easy with a backyard wedding. You did it though!
