Brooklyn Elopement

I rarely travel out of the Hudson Valley for my photography work.  However, when I do, I usually end up in Brooklyn.  Such was the case for this early September 2020 Brooklyn Elopement.  

When the pandemic hit in the spring of 2020, my weddings for the year were quickly postponed or canceled.  I was sad for my clients. Who wants to postpone a wedding they have been planning and looking forward to for months? Many couples eventually shifted and embraced this predicament. In July 2020 the wedding season was reborn in a frenzy of elopements and intimate weddings as couples decided not to wait to marry.

One such couple traveled from NYC to elope on the shore of the Hudson River.  It was a magical Hudson Valley Elopement.  The bride from this Hudson Valley elopement then referred me to her friend Margaux.  Margaux and her boyfriend, James, were seeking a photographer to capture their friend’s Brooklyn elopement.  They graciously gifted my services to their engaged friends.  

Jim and Koun’s Brooklyn elopement was a low-key affair set on the roof of their apartment building.

Bau and Jim, along with a couple of friends went up to the rooftop shortly before the ceremony to set up a few decorations and a makeshift bar. A handful of friends then simply gathered and when the time felt right they went to a corner of the roof where a mutual friend person performed a simple ceremony.  It was joyful and easy.  They signed their marriage license hugged their friends, captured a few photos, and then ordered some food for delivery.  

 Jim and Koun did their Brooklyn elopement their way and on their terms.  They relieved themself of what was expected in a traditional wedding. In turn, they were able to free up their time to spend doing what felt right to them - without the typical wedding stress and pressure. It was really lovely.
